I actually don't have a problem with the dolls in this collection themselves. They are lovely, have great costumes and (as far as I know) aren't actually based on people from the television program. It's more the product tie-in with Dancing with the Stars.
It strikes me as a pure profit grab to tie Barbie with such a popular program. Why did these dolls have to be branded "Dancing with the Stars"? These dolls easily could have been Waltz Barbie, Paso Doble Barbie and Samba Barbie -- without any mention of that show. Then I wouldn't be complaining about them at all. No, really.
Seriously, though. Dancing with the Stars is among the top-five television shows this season to-date in terms of viewers. Viewers totaled 18,153,000 as of the data through Nov. 13.
What's next? Two and a Half Men Ken?
ROFL! If we ever get a Charlie Sheen Ken, I'll kill myself. Yuck!
ReplyDeleteLOL, I can already see the raging parents waving their fists at a Two and a Half Men Ken! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'm big into marketing and from a business standpoint this is great. Take me for instance. I have never bought or wanted to buy Waltz Barbie or any other dance Barbie, but I was drawn to these because of the show. If they come out with a male version named Max, I am SO buying it. I am always on the side of companies making money and staying around. As much as I complain about Mattel, I would be in tears for months if they went bankrupt or disappeared like so many other companies are doing.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand why Mattel continues celebrity/brand mash-up dolls, Vanessa. You are right about it being good for business!
ReplyDelete...but I'm still not a fan. ;)
Wouldn't it be Two and a Half Ken? ;)
ReplyDeleteGood one, wwg!
